Day 1: Central Park Conservatory Garden

In Central Park, NYC, NYC for free, Summer 2009, things to do in NYC on June 1, 2009 at 10:06 pm

At 105th Street off of Fifth Avenue, this green sanctuary is like something out of a story book. Enter onto a perfectly manicured Italian garden with a great lawn, neatly trimmed hedges and the quintessential fountain in the center; to the North is a circular shaped French-style garden with seasonal plantings surrounding a sculpture fountain; to the South is an English-style garden with a maze of pathways and hundreds of flower species blooming whimsically. Separating the two latter gardens from the central Italian garden are canopied alleés of crabapple trees, lined with benches, perfect for relaxing in the shade. A weekday afternoon is indeed the best time to go in order to find a quiet place to sit or be able to wander peacefully amongst the flora and fauna. A chance to visit is worth taking a mental health day. I assure you– the sweet bird songs will do you good.
