Some of New York City’s best park benches are far from the green fields of Central Park, and instead, can be found in quaint neighborhood squares. At the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Bleecker Street in the heart of Greenwich Village, diagonally opposite the historical downtown church, Our Lady of Pompei, sits Father Demo Square. Named after the esteemed Father Antonio Demo who served as the church’s pastor from 1900 to 1936, the square bustles with life as visitors come to relax, people watch, some, even to chase pigeons as mom and dad stand by. On the corner just outside park is Grom, serving rich gelatos and refreshing sorbets. Whether in the warm sunshine of day or at night, in the glow of the bubbling fountain, there’s something about an ice cream in the summertime that makes you feel like a kid again!
