Day 8: A Walk Across the Brooklyn Bridge

In Brooklyn Bridge, NYC, NYC for free, Summer 2009, things to do in NYC on June 8, 2009 at 11:38 pm

The postcards and photographs are beautiful, but nothing compares to being on the Brooklyn Bridge in person, be it on foot or on wheels. One of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States—opened in 1883—the bridge welcomes thousands of people each day to cross via its pedestrian walkway, from sight-seers, to runners and cyclists to locals commuting across the river to and from work. It’s easy to argue what the best time of day or season of year is to visit, but whether you find a pale blue sky and bright white sun, or darkness and twinkling city lights, being so close to such a magnificent work of architecture and engineering is utterly breathtaking—a true New York City experience. And mind you…it’s one that hovers above water, over a hundred feet in the sky!
