Day 9: Rizzoli Bookstore

In NYC, NYC Bookstores, things to do in NYC on June 9, 2009 at 11:47 pm

Paging through books in Rizzoli’s three-story former townhouse space on West 57th Street, it’s easy to feel like you’re being taken off into a different world. Paneled millwork cases, decorative ceilings and candelabrum light fixtures are the backdrop to a careful selection of beautiful books which includes most-notable collections devoted to architecture, fashion, art and foreign language. Hours pass as one lingers, consumed in the glossy pages of a book on the history of Pierre Cardin or of poolside photographs by Slim Aarons, and so fittingly, French lounge music plays in the background. Inside the walls of this historically rich space, it seems that everything that makes New York City the mecca of fashion, art and culture it is known to be, is represented. If you go, plan to stay a while—because there’s no such thing as a quick visit.
