Day 20: Angelika Film Center

In NYC, NYC movie theatres, things to do in NYC on June 20, 2009 at 11:48 pm

If you have two hours to spare on a rainy day and don’t feel like a blockbuster, Angelika Film Center is the place to go. Out of all theatres to catch a flick, this is one of the best in New York City. Since 1989 the arthouse has lived on the corner of Houston and Mercer showing indie films you won’t find on just any block. With six screens underground, each with an intimate number of seats, going to a movie here feels like watching one with a group of friends rather than strangers. If you arrive hungry, the popcorn is awesome. If that’s not enough to satiate you, the street level café has a lengthy menu of sweet and savory eats that should do the trick. You might not find stadium seating that other NYC theatres offer, but for indie film lovers, Angelika is a place to go…to sit back, relax and enjoy the show.
