Day 35: Brooklyn Botanic Garden

In Brooklyn, NYC Gardens, NYC Museums, things to do in NYC on July 5, 2009 at 11:40 pm

It calls itself an urban oasis, and with 52 acres of green, set in the heart of Brooklyn, it is indeed that. Enter through the Eastern Parkway entrance and be welcomed by the Italian-style Osborne Garden, a sprawling carpet of grass lined by shaded pathways that lead deeper into the wonderland of flora that awaits you. With your map as your guide, meander down winding paths, under towering trees, through a proper rose garden, down an esplanade of cherry trees, and along a Japanese pond garden. With over 11,000 plant species ranging from storybook Alpine trees and delicate water lilies to exotic carnivorous flowers and neatly manicured bonsai trees, you can’t help but be amazed at nature’s remarkable beauty. Plan a day and hope for sunny skies because this is a place you’ll probably want to stay a while.
